HCMC to Launch Major Expressway, Port Projects for 50th Anniversary

Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee has unveiled a plan to launch a series of key infrastructure projects with groundbreaking ceremonies timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the city's renaming (July 2, 1976 – July 2, 2026). The main ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on July 1 at the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port area and will be broadcast live.

The municipal Department of Construction confirmed that all projects slated for commencement have received prior investment policy approval from the City People's Council. The initiatives include the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Cultural Park, the Bach Dang Wharf Public Green Park, and the Binh Tien Bridge and Road project, which will connect Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Street. The city approved the Binh Tien component project on March 20, with contractor selection expected by June 29 ahead of a contract signing on June 30.

Major transport works are also set to begin, including the Ho Tram - Long Thanh International Airport urban expressway and a sea-crossing road linking Can Gio and Vung Tau. Phase 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway is also on the list, with its contract signing anticipated for June 30. In related developments, the Department of Construction approved key interchanges for the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, clearing the connection with Rung Sac Road on June 15 and the link to National Highway 50 on March 19.

Furthermore, the city will initiate construction on Phase 1 of the Cai Mep Ha General and Container Port. The project has secured necessary regulatory approvals, with its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on June 25. A feasibility study report was subsequently approved by the Ministry of Construction on June 26, ensuring the project meets all requirements for the July 1 groundbreaking.
