AWS Deepens Vietnam Push with First Local Zone Cloud Hub in Hanoi

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its first AWS Local Zone in Vietnam, establishing a new cloud infrastructure facility in Hanoi to serve local customers and support the country’s expanding digital economy.
The new facility allows organisations to store and process data within Vietnam, addressing data residency and compliance mandates while delivering low-latency performance critical for real-time applications. The launch is poised to benefit a range of sectors, including finance, healthcare, gaming, media, and telecommunications, by enabling businesses to run latency-sensitive workloads closer to their end users.
Jeff Johnson, Managing Director for ASEAN at AWS, described Vietnam as one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic digital economies. "The AWS Local Zone in Hà Nội puts world-class compute and storage closer to customers, enabling Vietnamese organisations to innovate, scale and compete more effectively," he said.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Phạm Đức Long welcomed the investment, stating that the new cloud infrastructure would bolster Vietnam's position as a regional digital hub. "The launch reflects AWS's confidence in Việt Nam's digital economy and will help foster innovation, digital talent development and the sustainable growth of the country's digital ecosystem," Long commented.
The Hanoi Local Zone is designed to deliver single-digit millisecond latency for applications. It is among the first AWS Local Zones globally to offer local object storage through Amazon S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access and snapshot capabilities via Amazon EBS Local Snapshots. The facility provides access to Amazon EC2 computing services and can be connected through the internet or a dedicated private network using AWS Direct Connect. AWS noted that customers can use the same APIs and management tools available across its global network.
A number of Vietnamese organisations are already utilising the new infrastructure, including banks VIB and VPBank, fintech firm Trusting Social, and electric mobility company Green SM. Other prominent AWS customers in Vietnam include AI Hay, MoMo, Techcombank, Vinamilk, and Việt Nam Television (VTV).
Virginia Foote, Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hà Nội, said the investment sends a positive signal to international businesses about Vietnam's attractiveness as a destination for technology and digital investment.
The Hanoi facility joins a global network of AWS Local Zones operating in more than 30 metropolitan areas. It builds on the company's previous investments in Vietnam, which include CloudFront edge locations, AWS Direct Connect, and AWS Global Accelerator services.
