UOB Vietnam has commenced construction on a new headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, a project that underscores the bank's long-term confidence in the country's economic prospects. The bank announced on July 1 that it is developing UOB Plaza Ho Chi Minh City, becoming the first foreign bank to build and own a purpose-built headquarters within the city's planned Vietnam International Financial Centre (VIFC). The Grade A office tower is slated for completion in 2030.

With a total investment of approximately $450 million, the development signals UOB’s long-term commitment to Vietnam as a core market in its regional ASEAN strategy. The project highlights the bank's confidence in Vietnam’s sustained growth and aligns with Ho Chi Minh City’s ambition to establish itself as a leading international financial centre. By situating its headquarters in the VIFC, UOB aims to enhance its role in facilitating Vietnam's increasing connectivity with regional and global capital, trade, and investment flows.

Upon completion, UOB will have established a full headquarters presence across its five core ASEAN markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This move reinforces the bank's position as a regional institution with a deep local presence, enabling it to better support the cross-border activities of its clients.

Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman and CEO of UOB, described Vietnam as a key pillar of the bank's regional strategy. "Our new headquarters reflects our confidence in Vietnam's future and our support for Ho Chi Minh City's ambition to become an international financial centre," Cheong said. "Having our own headquarters in all five of our key markets underscores our long-term commitment to the region, its businesses and communities. Through our extensive network, we are uniquely positioned to deepen connectivity across the region and create greater value for our 8.5 million customers."

Located at 2 Ton Duc Thang street in the Ba Son area, UOB Plaza Ho Chi Minh City will occupy a prime 4,571-square-metre riverside site at the heart of the VIFC. The 36-storey tower is designed to rise 160 metres above the Saigon River and will serve as UOB's flagship headquarters in the country.

The project, designed by global architecture firm Gensler, will be constructed to international Grade A standards. It is also committed to achieving BCA Green Mark certification, reflecting modern environmental, social, and governance standards while meeting the functional needs of a financial institution. The design is envisioned as a future-ready workplace with flexible layouts, collaborative shared spaces, and increased access to natural light and greenery to promote innovation and employee wellbeing. The building will also incorporate climate-responsive features tailored to Vietnam’s tropical climate to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Beyond its corporate function, the plaza is conceived as a space that integrates art, nature, and local identity to contribute to a more vibrant urban environment within the VIFC.

Looking ahead, UOB plans to strengthen its capabilities to serve customers and support Vietnam’s integration with global markets. The bank intends to establish a branch within the VIFC and will continue to collaborate with government agencies and industry partners to contribute to the financial centre's development. Through its regional network and sector expertise, UOB is positioned to support businesses and investors exploring opportunities in Vietnam and across the ASEAN region, contributing to the country’s long-term economic growth.
