CMC's Chính joins Keidanren council, signaling deeper Japan-Vietnam tech links

Nguyễn Trung Chính, chairman of Vietnamese technology firm CMC Corporation, has been appointed to the Board of Councillors of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), a move that marks a significant milestone in technology cooperation between Việt Nam and Japan. His term as a Shingiin, or board member, began on June 3 and is set to run until Keidanren's Annual General Meeting in 2028.
Keidanren is one of Japan's most influential business organizations, comprising leading corporations, industry associations, and regional economic groups. Its Board of Councillors serves as a forum for representatives of member companies to deliberate on long-term economic, industrial, technological, and social issues impacting Japan's business community.
A Keidanren representative noted that Chính and CMC have been instrumental in fostering connections between the Japanese and Vietnamese business communities, especially in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and technology cooperation.
"Nguyễn Trung Chính and CMC have played an active role in connecting the Japanese business community with Việt Nam," the representative said. "In his capacity as Shingiin, we expect him to continue contributing perspectives from Việt Nam and ASEAN while promoting new cooperation initiatives in the digital economy, AI, technology infrastructure and human resource development."
The appointment aligns with the expansion of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Việt Nam and Japan into high-growth sectors such as AI, semiconductors, cybersecurity, data centres, and digital infrastructure.
Japan has been a key overseas market for CMC for over two decades. The corporation operates in Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, providing digital transformation services, cloud computing, software development, and AI solutions to Japanese clients. In 2024, CMC opened its third office in Tokyo and formally joined Keidanren.
"I deeply appreciate the trust of Keidanren and the Japanese business community," Chính said of the appointment, describing it as both an honor and a responsibility. "In my role as Shingiin, I hope to contribute more to strengthening economic, technological and innovation cooperation between Việt Nam and Japan."
Chính added that CMC plans to expand its collaboration with Japanese businesses, research institutes, and universities in areas including AI, data centres, semiconductors, research and development, and digital talent training.
