VN-Index Gains on Banking Sector Strength; Foreigners Net Buy VNĐ355 Billion

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index started the new month on a positive footing, closing higher on Wednesday as investor capital flowed into banking, securities, and energy stocks. The broad-based rally successfully offset adjustment pressure on Vingroup-related shares, indicating a rotation of interest toward other market drivers.
The index on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HoSE) concluded the session at 1,867.21, an increase of 7.2 points, or 0.39 per cent. Market breadth was positive as the number of gaining stocks surpassed decliners. However, liquidity decreased, with trading value on HoSE falling 11 per cent from the prior session to VNĐ17.2 trillion (US$654 million). The HNX-Index on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) remained unchanged, closing flat at 313.16 points.
Broad Sector Rally
The banking sector was the primary catalyst for the day's advance. Orient Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OCB) shares soared 3.64 per cent, while HDBank (HDB) climbed 2.9 per cent and VPBank (VPB) increased 2.59 per cent. Other strong performers included Techcombank (TCB) and MBBank (MBB), adding 2.39 per cent and 2.18 per cent, respectively. Large-cap banks also contributed, with BIDV (BID) up 1.53 per cent, Vietinbank (CTG) up 1.33 per cent, and Vietcombank (VCB) up 1.29 per cent.
Securities stocks also rose on improved sentiment. Ho Chi Minh Securities (HCM) led with a 3.31 per cent gain, while Vietcap (VCI), VNDirect Securities (VND), SSI Securities (SSI), and VIX Securities (VIX) all rose by at least 1.2 per cent. Oil and gas shares were supported by favourable global prices, with Petrovietnam Refining And Petrochemical Corporation (BSR) jumping 5.38 per cent. Other gainers included PV Drilling (PVD) up 1.98 per cent, PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) up 1.76 per cent, Petrolimex (PLX) up 1.37 per cent, and PV Gas (GAS) up 0.78 per cent.
Blue-Chip Gains and Foreign Inflows
Beyond the leading sectors, several blue-chips reinforced the upward tone. FPT Corporation (FPT) jumped 3.85 per cent, Masan Consumer Corporation (MCH) rose 5 per cent, and Mobile World Investment Corporation (MWG) increased 2.43 per cent. Vietnam Airlines (HVN), FPT Digital Retail (FRT), and Vietnam Rubber Group (GVR) also advanced by 2.13 per cent, 1.75 per cent, and 1.07 per cent, respectively.
In a notable highlight, foreign investors returned as net buyers after multiple sessions of cautious trading, purchasing a net of nearly VNĐ354.8 billion on the HoSE.
