Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is finalizing preparations to launch a national traceability system for agro-forestry-fishery products, with the platform slated to become operational on July 1, 2026. The initiative is designed to enhance transparency, improve management efficiency, and satisfy the requirements of both domestic and international markets following successful pilot programs.

At a meeting on June 22 to review the system's readiness, Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, stated that the ministry has concentrated its efforts across three synchronized pillars: perfecting the institutional framework, building technical infrastructure, and organizing data connections and pilot operations.

According to Mr. Long, data integration is a critical component of the preparations. The ministry has directed specialized agencies, local authorities, and businesses to collaborate on sharing foundational data such as planting area codes, packing facility information, and laboratory testing results. Most solution providers are expected to complete connectivity within the testing environment by June 30.

The system currently tracks over 18,000 products from 149 participating enterprises across 26 provinces and cities. Parallel to infrastructure development, the ministry has conducted pilot operations for key commodities, including the export durian industry. Initial results indicate the system has effectively supported shipment traceability and met the stringent demands of international markets.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Hoang Trung emphasized the need for efficiency. "The connection and sharing of data must strictly adhere to the principle of 'single declaration, multiple uses' to avoid redundant investment and maximize data utilization efficiency," he said.
