A significant wave of investment in South America's logistics infrastructure is poised to create new opportunities for Vietnamese exporters targeting markets in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and neighboring countries.

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Argentina, the preliminary selection of a consortium to upgrade the strategic Paraná–Paraguay waterway is a key development. The project is expected to reduce logistics costs and improve transport efficiency, creating more favorable conditions for trade flows between Vietnam and the region, which has long been viewed as a promising market constrained by high transport expenses.

Once river and maritime transport networks are upgraded and integrated, Vietnam’s key exports could gain stronger market access. These products include coffee, cashew nuts, pepper, processed seafood, textiles and footwear, furniture, consumer goods, and electronic components.

The Trade Office noted that Argentina, the largest economy of the three, is showing signs of improving economic stability. Consecutive declines in inflation are expected to bolster consumer confidence and create a better environment for importers. While demand for non-essential goods remains cautious, food prices rising above the general inflation rate suggest stable demand for essentials, presenting an opening for Vietnamese exporters of agricultural products, processed foods, and consumer staples.

Meanwhile, Uruguay is strengthening its position as a regional logistics hub, offering Vietnamese businesses enhanced flexibility in transportation, warehousing, and transshipment services. This could facilitate deeper market penetration into Uruguay, Paraguay, and the broader Southern Common Market (Mercosur).

Paraguay’s primary appeal is its macroeconomic stability. Low inflation allows importers, distributors, and retailers to manage costs and plan business activities more effectively. Resilient demand for food and non-alcoholic beverages creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese exporters of agricultural products and other essential consumer goods.

As these logistics networks improve, South America is emerging as an increasingly accessible and attractive destination for Vietnamese exporters seeking to diversify markets and expand their global footprint.
