Hong Kong's Ultra-Rich Population Surges 26%, Outpacing New York, London

Hong Kong’s population of ultra-high-net-worth individuals grew faster than any other top-10 global wealth hub in 2025, outpacing rivals such as New York, London, and Tokyo, according to a new report from data analytics firm Altrata.

The city’s cohort of individuals with a net worth of $30 million or more expanded by 26.4% last year to 18,290. This rate of increase significantly surpassed that of London (18.3%), New York (16.9%), and Tokyo (15.8%).

In terms of absolute numbers, Hong Kong ranked second globally. New York held the top position with 23,785 ultra-rich residents. Following Hong Kong were Los Angeles with 12,995, San Francisco with 9,210, and Chicago with 8,375.

The New York-based research firm attributed the city’s performance to a "resurgence in cross-border wealth inflows." Altrata noted that "ultra-wealth trends were buoyed by an equity-market revival [driven by deepening integration with mainland Chinese capital flows], real estate and investment reforms, and increased regional demand for sophisticated wealth-management services."

With a population exceeding 7.5 million, Hong Kong has approximately one ultra-high-net-worth individual for every 412 residents, based on calculations by the South China Morning Post. The group’s combined net worth stands at US$2.1 trillion. "Hong Kong is one of Asia's leading hubs for private banking, family offices and offshore wealth management," Altrata added.

On a national level, the United States remained the dominant market, with its ultra-rich population growing 15% to 206,880 individuals. This figure exceeds the combined total of all other countries in the top 10, with their collective net worth reaching $23.8 trillion. Mainland China secured second place with 55,490 ultra-rich individuals, a 10.1% increase, while Germany, Japan, and the U.K. completed the top five.
